Corrosion Behavior of Flame Sprayed Cr2O3 Coatings on Carbon Steel in Chloride Solutions

Cr2O3 coatings were deposited on carbon steel through the flame spraying technique using two types of flames (neutral and oxidizing). The protective morphological characteristics determined. had layer thickness values 114 214µm for oxidizing neutral samples, respectively. Porosity percentages 4.5 % 2.5 determined, where sample presented greatest porosity due to insufficient fusion oxide particles during process, resulting in formation a heterogeneous less compact layer. Microcracks pores found surface cross-section coatings, thermal expansion generated solidification process. coating capacity was evaluated by electrochemical techniques over 672 hours 3.5 %wt NaCl saline solution. results evidenced that manufactured with more corrosion resistance compared those prepared flame. products evident because diffusion mechanisms from substrate interconnected pores. Finally, wettability sodium chloride solution measured contact angle technique, finding exhibited higher value (64.8°) contrast (35°).
